Mashable: Facebook Video Launches

Apparently the inevitable Facebook video service is stepping up to the plate against MySpace and YouTube. I wonder how long it will take for their video library to be large enough to enable easy discovery of desirable videos, without having to head back to youtube for the guaranteed hit.

I’m curious to see its full implementation. Specifically, how videos will be made discoverable, if users will only be able to put their own videos on their profile, etc. Is this just sharing my own videos, as I would a photo, from my profile, or will videos have their own home outside the world of profiles. If not, YouTube doesn’t have much to worry about.

Also this weekend, Facebook has introduced a new evolution for its development platform. Applications can now be integrated within Facebook itself, just like Facebook’s own Photos, Share, and Groups apps. This means third-party development will be in a stronger position to enhance Facebook’s product, rather than just pushing users away from the core site.

Overall, these seem to be some solid moves to further enhance the Facebook experience as a community site.
